Butambala District (Butambala District)
Butambala District is a district in the Central Region of Uganda.
This district is bordered by Gomba District to the west and north-west, Mityana District to the north-east, Mpigi District to the east and south, and Kalungu District to the south-west. The district headquarters at Gombe are approximately 31 km, by road, west of the town of Mpigi, the largest metropolitan area in the sub-region. This is approximately 68 km, by road, south-west of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city.

Uganda is named after the Buganda kingdom, which encompasses a large portion of the south of the country, including the capital Kampala and whose language Luganda is widely spoken throughout the country. From 1894, the area was ruled as a protectorate by the United Kingdom, which established administrative law across the territory. Uganda gained independence from the UK on 9 October 1962. The period since then has been marked by violent conflicts, including an eight-year-long military dictatorship led by Idi Amin.
